Gantry Systems for Fire and Rescue Appliances
Supply Plus designs and manufactures roof-mounted gantry systems under the +AS Fire & Safety brand. Our gantries provide rooftop ladder and equipment stowage for Fire and Rescue Services.
Each gantry is built to improve operational efficiency, crew safety and manual handling. With over 50 years of experience, +AS gantries have become the UK industry standard.
We supply gantries to vehicle manufacturers and integrators worldwide. Every system is made in the UK at our Cambridge manufacturing facility.
Why Fire Services Need a Gantry
Fire appliances carry ladders and heavy equipment on the roof. Reaching that equipment safely is a challenge for crews, especially during an emergency.
Working at height regulations mean that roof stowage must be brought down to the operator. A gantry does exactly that, lowering ladders and kit to a safe working height.
This reduces the need for crews to climb onto the vehicle roof. It also helps lower the risk of manual handling injuries.
Modular and Configurable Design
Our gantries are modular and configurable. Each system can be tailored to the layout of the appliance and the sizes of ladder it needs to carry.
They support +AS ladders and ladders from other manufacturers, including +Bayley. This gives fire services the freedom to choose the right ladders for their needs.
Rear Deployment as Standard
All +AS gantries deploy from the rear of the vehicle. This is safer for crews working in tight streets, where space alongside the appliance may be limited.
Rear deployment also preserves access to side roller shutters and pump bays. Crews can reach lockers and pumps while the gantry is in use.
Beam Gantries
Beam gantries offer controlled deployment from ground level. Crews can lower ladders and equipment without climbing onto the roof.
They are available in manual, assisted and powered versions. This allows each fire service to choose the level of support that suits its fleet and budget.
Flexible Load Configurations
Beam gantries are configured to the appliance layout and ladder sizes. They commonly carry a main centre ladder, with additional ladders or equipment mounted higher on either side.
A sloped central trough helps guide and support the main ladder. Multi-tier designs are also available to make the most of the roof space.
Supporting Flat Roof Designs
Beam gantries support flat roof vehicle designs. A flat roof can be used to increase water capacity or to provide clean cab stowage.
This flexibility helps fire services get more from every appliance.
PowerBeam™ Powered Gantry
PowerBeam™ is our powered gantry system. Powered raising and lowering is fitted as standard, with an optional powered headslide.
The system runs on 24V DC and includes a manual override. This means crews can still operate the gantry if power is lost.
Reducing Crew Injury Risk
By taking the strain out of lifting, PowerBeam™ reduces the risk of crew injury. Heavy loads are raised and lowered at the touch of a control.
PowerBeam™ can carry ladders, equipment boxes, breathing apparatus racks and even boats. Payloads of up to 300 kg are possible, depending on the model.
More Space on the Appliance
PowerBeam™ supports flat roof designs. This creates the option of more water or foam capacity, additional kit stowage or a clean cab.
A clean cab layout allows dirty kit to be stored separately after an incident. This supports decontamination and helps protect crews from contaminants.
Built-In Safety Features
PowerBeam™ includes limit switches, sensors and over current protection. These features help ensure safe, reliable operation every time the gantry is used.
The system is compatible with +AS, +Bayley and other manufacturers' ladders.
Choosing the Right Gantry Option
Every fire service has different operational priorities. Our team can help you decide which gantry type is most appropriate for your appliances.
Manual Gantries
Manual beam gantries provide controlled deployment from ground level. They are a practical choice where loads are lighter and simplicity is the priority.
Assisted Gantries
Assisted gantries reduce the effort required to lower and raise the load. They offer a middle ground between manual and fully powered operation.
Powered Gantries
PowerBeam™ provides powered raising and lowering as standard. It is ideal for heavier payloads of up to 300 kg, depending on the model, and for services that want to minimise manual handling.
Key Questions to Consider
Consider the ladder sizes and equipment your appliance needs to carry. Think about whether a flat roof could provide additional water capacity or clean cab stowage, and how often crews will need to deploy the load.
Benefits for Vehicle Manufacturers and Integrators
Supply Plus works closely with vehicle manufacturers, bodybuilders and fleet integrators. Our gantries are designed to simplify installation and reduce build time.
Because each gantry is modular and configurable, it can be adapted to a wide range of chassis and body designs. This makes specification simpler for builders and end users alike.
Our gantries are trusted by vehicle manufacturers, bodybuilders and fleet integrators across the world. Close collaboration with OEMs and end users ensures that each system meets the demands of blue light operations.
A Complete Access and Stowage Solution
Gantries are part of a complete range of fire and rescue vehicle equipment from Supply Plus. Our products are fitted to fire-fighting and rescue vehicles worldwide.
Ladders
+AS and +Bayley ladders are designed to work with our gantries. The range includes double extension and triple extension ladders certified to BS EN 1147:2010.
Shutters
+AS shutters provide rapid single-handed operation. Options include the Century 2000 Flexible, Century 2000 Mechanical, Ultra and +AS-Lite shutters.
